Hotchkiss Artillery Shell - Gettysburg - Inventory Number: GET 393 / SOLD
This projectile was manufactured with flame grooves. When the projectile was fired, the expanding lead sabot sometimes sealed the bore so well that no flame could pass, thereby keeping the shell's paper time fuse from igniting to explode the shell – probably what happened with this example. The shell retains its original brass time fuse adapter, which still can unscrew from the shell. Rendered inert. This example was formerly part of the Longsteet museum located at the intersection of Millerstown Road and Confederate Ave.Inventory Number: GET 393 / SOLD
