This is an excavated specimen, and this common size was for the 3” Ordnance rifle. This case shot shell was fired and retains its lead sabot and brass fuse adapter. The lead band shows nice evidence of rifling. Three flame grooves run along the body of the shell. Has been professionally disarmed and flushed of powder. Very nice example recovered from Cedar Creek, Virginia.
