Pocket sized hardcover, 552-page leather bound hymn book measuring 4 ¾” by 3”. The inside of the front cover has the pencil inscription “T.P. Henderson’s Book, Summerville, GA.” Thomas P. Henderson enlisted as a private in the 9th Georgia Infantry in February 1863. The regiment was heavily engaged at Gettysburg, Knoxville, the Wilderness, and at Spotsylvania where Henderson was wounded. The book shows substantial wear, and the front cover is separated from the binding and exhibits a stitched repair which has since become loose. An authentic ID’d religious text carried by a Confederate soldier.
