Identified Piece of the 5th Alabama Confederate Silk Flag with Period Note - Inventory Number: CON 533
"WHILE IN THE CHESTER HOSPITAL, PA OCT. 1862 this piece of flag was given to me by 'J. Schebley' of the 5th Alabama who was taken a prisoner at the capture of Fort Sumter & captured the colors while at the Fort, James R. Husted Co. K 6 Reg NJ" is written in period ink on a 5x3.75 tag to which is attached a small red, white, and blue piece of ribbon measuring 1"x1". Possibly cut from a streamer. Husted was discharged in Jan. 1863 from wounds received in battle. More research possible. Possibly wounded at Fredericksburg.
