    Inscribed 5th Corps Badge Elisha Rathbun, 1st Connecticut Heavy Artillery - Inventory Number: INS 269 / SOLD

    Elisha Rathbun, 1st Connecticut Heavy Artillery 5th Corps badge. 1 ½” by 3 ½” 2-piece silver badge with red silk ribbon; T-bar attached to reverse of suspension bar (surface scratches, minor loss or plating; minor separations to ribbon). The suspension bar is engraved: "E. Rathbun / Co. B. 5th Corps Maltese Cross badge engraved with "5" and a decorative border. Possibly identified to Elisha Rathburn (d. 1906) of Groton, CT who enlisted on 22 May 1861 as a private, mustering into Co. D of the 1st Connecticut Heavy Artillery on the same day. The regiment was attached to the 3rd Brigade, 2nd Division, V Corps from May to July 1862. He re-enlisted on 11 November 1863 and later transferred to the Navy on 15 April 1864 serving aboard the U.S.S. Dale and U.S.S. San Jacinto. After the war, he was a member of GAR Post #1 (William Logan Rodman) in New Bedford, MA. A high-grade 5th Corps badge. 

    Comes housed in a 6 x 8 inch display case with red velvet backing and descriptive card.
