Jacob Strandt, Company A, 4th Regiment PRVC, Missing 2nd Bull Run

Private Jacob Strandt, Company A, Fourth Regiment Pennsylvania Reserve Volunteer Corps.  

Strandt enlisted in June of 1861 as a private.  He was listed as missing on August 29, 1862 after the battle of 2nd Bull Run, VA. 

PENNSYLVANIA 33RD INFANTRY (4TH Resereve)

Thirty-third Infantry.-Cols., Robert G. March, Albert L. Magilton, R. H. Woolworth, Thomas F. B. Tapper; Lieut.-Cols., John F. Gaul Thomas B. F. Tapper, Frederick A. Conrad; Majs., Robert M. McClure, John Nyce, Enos L. Christman, Frederick A. Conrad, J. W. Shoemaker.  This regiment, the 4th of the reserves, was mustered in at Harrisburg in June, 1861, to serve for three years.  It left for Baltimore on July 21 and remained there until the end of August, when it was ordered to Tennallytown.  As part of the 2nd brigade, the regiment was present at Mechanicsville, closely engaged at Gaines' mill; participated in a fierce bayonet fight at Glendale, in which it was able to withstand the opposing force, though it

suffered severe losses was in reserve at Malvern hill, was active at the second Bull Run, South Mountain, Antietam and Fredericksburg, after which it was ordered to the defenses of Washington, to recuperate.  Here it remained until Jan., 1864, when it participated in the West Virginia campaign.  From this time its fortunes were those of the 32nd regiment already described.  On June 17, 1864, it was mustered out at Philadelphia, its veterans and recruits being transferred to the 54th.
