Kittredge Marked Cooper Navy Revolver - Inventory Number: HAN 285

A secondary martial sidearm produced by the J. M. Cooper Company of Philadelphia, PA. Known as a Navy Second Model Revolver, this specimen was one of approximately 11,000 handguns produced by the company between 1864 and 1869 and it closely resembles the Colt Model 1849 Pocket. 

This example is agent marked! The side of barrel marked "KITTREDGE, CIN O". (This is a marking for Benjamin Kittredge of Cincinnati, Ohio. He was one of Samuel Colt's major distributors and marked some of the firearms that he supplied, this is one of them.

In good overall condition with even wear, this Cooper sidearm is a double-action, .36 caliber model with a three-screw frame. It has a 5-shot rebated cylinder matched to a 4” long, octagonal barrel. Cylinder is free of any engraving but has the five conventional rectangular safety notches. All original nipples intact and not broken. Mechanics are strong. Half-cock and full cock positions are operable. Barrel address marking of “COOPER FIREARMS MFG. CO. FRANKFORD PHILA. PA. / PAT. JAN 7 1851 APR 25 1854 SEP 4 1860 / SEP 1 1863 SEP 22 1863.” Revolver exhibits a dark gray patina on all gunmetal. Triggerguard and buttstrap are brass and have origins bright finish. Serial number “666” marked on the butt strap, wedge, barrel and loading lever. 

 A large, brass trigger guard fits the frame. The revolver’s grips are one-piece varnished walnut in very good condition and show smooth wear. Exterior metal surfaces shows scattered light bluing and honest wear consistent with this weapon’s age and use. All screws are in good condition, not buggered.
