    Letter of Confederate General James Longstreet - SOLD

    Ca. 1853.  Content regards, then Captain Longstreet of the 8th Infantry Brevet Major writing to Colonel S. Thomas, to request a leave of absence for "Important Private Business".  Also includes an engraving from Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper of Lieutenant-General Longstreet.  Frame measures 20  3/4" x 10 3/4".

    I have the honor to ask that, the leave of absence granted me in, Special Orders, No 1 of April 4th 53.  Be extended six months. 

    I have important private business to attend to.  Which will require much more time than I now have.
