Medical Saddle Bags - These leather saddle bags were the means for which to transport medicine with the physician on horseback. This example originated in Bell Oak, Mich. and retains a tag from the Collection of Doctor Walter Mercer of East Lansing, Mich. The tag states: “Saddle Bags used by Physician at Bell Oak, Mich. in Civil War Times.”
Bags are in good pliable condition with no tears or distress other than crazing from age. The closure tabs and buckles are intact and functional. Cursory research on two Bell Creek physicians are included.
