Davis writes “the chief of ordinance will give further explanation of this case to the committee. On military affairs of the Senate. It’s history, and probable consequences not only to the Arsenal, but to the use of the magazine will be clearly presented. Department, May 13, 1856 Jefferson Davis - Secretary of the war.”

This document dated May 1856 calls attention to a bill which has passed through the house of representatives granting to the iron Mountain railroad, right of way through the St. Louis Arsenal.
