General Service or Militia button, Imperial Standard (22mm). Button depicts a patriotic eagle facing right, beside a somewhat pointed shield, which has 8 stars within top portion. 16 stars encircling, wide oval inner border, outer rope border, on a lined background. The back has the full shank with the backmark of "IMPERIAL/ (star) STANDARD (star)"rmdc, stippled channel, backmark was a trademark denoting quality. This is a one-piece, coat size flat button. Could be purchased by any militia unit during the 1830"s and is most likely of English manufacture. This is a gilted button and has strong features.
