Stamped brass rectangular militia sword belt plate with spread-winged eagle at center surrounded by a border of twelve stars and a wreath of laurel. The thirteenth star on the plate is on a US shield that is superimposed over the eagle’s chest, now obscured by a bend and discoloration. The face of the plate has a nice chocolate brown patina. The reverse is lacking the tongue and a belt attachment bar. Purchased directly from a lifelong relic hunter and said to be from a trench thought to be occupied by the 13th Mississippi infantry on the Battlefield of Cold Harbor!
