Model 1816 Replacement Bayonet - Inventory Number: BAY 237 / SOLD

This .69 caliber triangular bayonet was manufactured in 1861 for the Mosel 1816 musket.  The term replacement denotes that it was made at the onset of the war when converted to procession.  These were produced with the rounded shoulders at the base of the blade like the M1855 rather than the pointed edges encountered on the base of the flintlock variety. Nice U.S. marking at the base.
