Model 1863 Starr Single Action Revolver - Inventory Number: HAN 186 / SOLD
The .44 caliber Model 1863 Starr was manufactured upon the request of the Ordnance Department for a simpler and less expensive single action only version of Starr’s innovative double action design which was patented in 1858. It proved to be a robust design for cavalry use, with an 8” barrel and tilting frame design that made the cylinder easy to remove and clean. This example has a pleasing brown patina with military inspector cartouches visible on each side of the one-piece grip, which has an old brass tack nailed into the butt. The action is functional but someone sticky. Overall, a nice example of a popular Civil War cavalry side arm.
