Mounted Rifleman officers Insignia - Inventory Number: INS 209 / SOLD
Very rare elongated bugle device used by the Mounted Rifle Corps in the years before the Civil War and into the War's early years. This trumpet was issued by the Army to officers and bears the false embroidered tassels which began in 1851. The insignia retains nearly all of its original gold gilt finish and is constructed of stamped brass with oxidized lead solder affixing a pair of brass wires for attaching to hats. The exact pattern had been documented in use by Sharpshooteres during the war. Scarce insignia.
