Musket Barrel and Confederate Scabbard from Appomattox - Inventory Number: CON 255 / SOLD

Excavated relic lot from the woods of Appomattox, Virginia, site of Lee’s surrender to Grant on April 9, 1865. The musket barrel appears to be from an 1842 .69 caliber musket, broken down to 27 inches. As the original tag notes, this may have been done on purpose by a surrendering Confederate soldier. The lot also includes a broken iron saber scabbard from the same vicinity that is clearly of Confederate construction with crude, lapped seam. One section measures 18 inches and the other 11.5 inches. A wonderful collection of dug Civil War relics from the historic surrender at Appomattox Court House.
