Musket Tompion - Civil War era musket accoutrement referred to as a ‘tompion’. The cylindrical device has a brass top cap with an inner metal shank wrapped with cork. Device was utilized to plug barrels to keep dirt and moisture out when the weapons were in transit or when they were not in use. This cylindrical brass measures 1 7/8”, cork is not present. Recovered from Fredericksburg.
