Near Mint Model 1816 Bayonet - Inventory Number: BAY 265 / SOLD

This Federal accoutrement is an original angular socket bayonet made for the US Model 1816 Flintlock Musket longarm with "US" stamped into the flat shank of the blade, in near mint condition and has a .69 caliber bore.  In time, the M1816 was converted to a percussion musket and the accompanying accoutrements could also be affixed to the newer conversion. The M1816 bayonet was the first American bayonet to include a uniformly ground flute and the first bayonet to employ the “T” mortise in the socket.
