Outstanding Confederate Bowie Knife - Inventory Number: CON 124 / Sold
A superb example of a large "D' Guard Bowie from my personal collection. Measuring 18" overall. This example exhibits an impressive horn handle with original owner's initials: "J.H. Co. H" and some other light carvings.
Blade measures 11 7/8" in with a clipped point and exhibits all the classic finishing expected of a true Southern knife. Original pigskin sheath with period paper label with ink inscription which had not been deciphered. The seam is adorned with a series of lead rivets and a pair of slits for affixing to the belt. If you've ever wanted a pedigreed example of a Confederate soldiers' "D" guard, this is a stunning example of such a knife. Ex. R. E. Neville Collection, Ex. Brendan Synnamon collection.
