Pennsylvania Militia Shoulder Belt Plate Depicting John Reynolds - Inventory Number: BEL 359 / SOLD

From the collection of J. Duncan Campbell

Shoulder sling plate circa 1865-1880 depicting John F. Reynolds, the commander of the 1st Corps killed on July 1, 1863 at Gettysburg. These were likely worn by Pennsylvania militia or veteran regioment. The plate measures 3 ½” by 2 ½” and is constructed of thin rolled brass crimped over a tinned iron backplate, with three thin brass wire loops soldered to the back. The bottom of Reynolds’ bust is stamped with the maker’s name P.H. Jacobus. This is the exact plate depicted in American Military Belt Plates by Michael J. O’Donnell & J. Duncan Campbell. A scarce example.

Comes housed in a display case with black velvet backing and descriptive card.
