    Philadelphia Fire Zouaves Box Plate, ca 1867-73 - Inventory Number: BEL 381 /SOLD

    2 7/8” by 1 ¾” die-struck rolled brass oval cartridge box plate featuring letters "P.F.Z." on front and brass wire loops soldered on the reverse. Cataloged as Plate 592 in O'Donnell and Duncan Campbell. This style is thought to date from the 72nd PA regiment's 1867 reorganization. The 72nd Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment became known as Baxter's Philadelphia Fire Zouaves as the regiment's enlisted were raised from Philadelphia fire companies and led by Colonel DeWitt Clinton Baxter. A desirable zouave buckle in great condition. 

    Comes housed in a 6 x 8 display case with black velvet backing and descriptive card.
