Political Parade Lantern

Political Parade Lantern - Inventory Number: POL 337

Lantern made from corrugated wove paper with cardboard top and base, hanging loop and internal metal candle holder. The paper is printed or painted with blue and red in sound condition but very fragile due to the age and material. Folded accordion style. These were mass produced during the war and there are several 1860 and 1861 examples used at political rallies and even examples which read “Union” or have an eagle imprinted on them. Neat for any political or patriotic display. Common during the era now scarce due to the nature of the materials.
