Presentation Colt Pocket Model with Holster - Inventory Number: HAN 089 / SOLD
Colt "1849 Pocket" model revolver inscribed on the back-strap: "T.R. Matthews - Chadwick Light Infantry - Roxbury" All matching serial numbers: 203,335.
Manufactures in early 1861 when Thomas R. Matthews entered the war. He resided in Roxbury, Massachusetts and was only 19 years old, working as a manufacturer. He entered the service as a private on May 24th, 1861 with Company "K" of the 1st Massachusetts Infantry where he was wounded and captured on June 6th 1862 at Nelson's Farm, Virginia. He was discharged for his wounds on February 25th 1863. After the war he served as post commander for G.A.R. Post #113 the Edward W. Kinsley Post in Boston, Massachusetts. He died October 3rd, 1927. The pistol is accompanied by its original russet brown pigskin holster with knotted leather finial.
This Colt is constructed with the desirable 5" barrel with two line marking: "Address Saml. Colt - Hartford, Conn." Strong amount of original silver present on the back-strap, Cylinder scene is present but worn in some areas, no pitting, smooth metal. Grip retains most of its original factory varnish. Action needs work.
