Thomas Leiper Kane recruited the famous Pennsylvania “Bucktails” 13th PA Reserves/ 42nd PA Vols. Appointed as a Brigadier General he commanded a 12th Corps Brigade at Chancellorsville, where he fell ill. Leaving his sick bed he arrived in Gettysburg and took command of his brigade of July 2, 1863, and was later brevetted to Major General of Volunteers for his services in that battle. Kane, however, had been forced to resign from service for health reasons in November 1863, and the promotion was merely honorary. Fine card depicting him as a major, Kane CDVs are scarce.
