The Rebel Yell...All across the embattled Confederacy the high-pitched, keening battle cry rang  our from those wolf-like fighters in butternut and gray.  It had its roots in the foxhunter's cry, it was modified by the cattledriver's call and the Indian was whoop.  Above all, it was spontaneous and savage, unearthly, something out of the primitive past.
