Regulation Issue Civil War US Army Blanket - Inventory Number: MIS 259

A very nice example of the regulation army blanket. Gray/brown wool with darker brown end stripes. Overall measurements are roughly 65 by 64 with the wide stripes top, and bottom having been trimmed off, possibly during service based on the wear, as the tops and bottoms of these were unfinished and tended to shred.

In the center the letters US in darker brown wool are hand woven and present very well, the letters are done in a single outline with enclosed ends. The letters are 4 inches wide. The letters stand 5 inches.

There is a dozen or so small, scattered holes or wear spots, the blanket is very solid, intact, and can be handled, rolled or displayed.

This blanket fits the specifications and data for blankets laid out by Fred Gaede in his study. A very nice example of a fuel used regulation, Civil War military blanket.
