Regulation Tin Cup Identified to the 14th U.S. Colored Troops -  Inventory Number: CAM 334 / Sold

This Civil War regulation cup is the oversized variety, measuring 4 ¼” x 6 ¼ 4”.  The handle bears a unit designation “U.S. / 14th”.  The stamping was done with individual die stamps and not eh later “U.S.” found on Indian war era issued cups.  Thoughts on the stamping are that they were done by Cornelius Ferris, the sutler of the regiment and author of the Units regimental history.  The cup was purchased from the Horse Soldier and is accompanied by their research on the 14th and the sutlers of the regiment. Tiny period repair on the bottom of the cup.
