Relic Buttons Mississippi Infantry from near Gettysburg! - Inventory Number: BUT 301
A nice relic set of buttons from an old museum collection. The buttons are mounted on their original cardstock with old ink inscriptions attesting to their history. The first reads: Civil War / 1861 to 1865 / Confederate Button / Mississippi and features a star button with the Infantry “I” in the center with the original shank present. The ither is a Civil War era Infantry “I” officer’s eagle button which is affixed to an identical card which is inscribed: “Spanish American War. Given to us by a solider at Camp Meade, 1898.” Due to the location of Camp Meade and the identical mounts and writing, the only logical conclusion is that the buttons were lost during the Gettysburg Campaign. Camp George G. Meade near Middletown, Pennsylvania, was a camp established and subsequently abandoned by the U.S. Volunteers during the Spanish American War. A neat set of relic buttons!
Comes housed in 6 x 8 riker display case with black velvet and descriptive card.
