Excavated private’s musket tool for the Pattern 1853 Enfield. The tool is in the shape of a “Y”. The body of the tool was hollow and served as an oil reservoir. An applicator was attached to a fluted thumbscrew which screwed into the top. The bottom of this central piece had a recessed nipple wrench. Screwed into the body was a nipple prick. The arm has a screwdriver blade on one end and was threaded on the other to hold a wiper. A rarely dug accessory for the Enfield rifle.
