Remington Model 1858 New Model Army - Inventory Number: HAN 254 / SOLD
Civil War production Remington New Model 1858 Army Revolver in very good condition. Remington arms manufactured these sidearms for the military from 1863 to 1875. The New Model Army became the strongest competitor against the Colt Model 1860 revolver during that time. The Union government acquired a total of some 122,000 such New Model revolvers for military use.
This excellent, government-inspected sidearm is an original .44 caliber handgun equipped with a 6-shot round, unrebated cylinder matched to an 8” long octagonal barrel. Screw-on barrel shows its threads visible at the breech end of the frame. Grips are original, two-piece walnut in good condition. The serial number 64,939 is stamped into the bottom facet of the barrel and on the grip frame, dating it to early 1865 production. The revolver retains most of its original factory bluing on the frame, cylinder, loading lever and barrel, with scattered areas of light wear. All cylinder nipples are original and in good condition. Barrel marking is good and reads, “PATENTED SEPT. 14, 1858 / E. REMINGTON & SONS, ILION, NEW YORK, U.S.A. / NEW MODEL.” Mechanics are excellent with a strong trigger. This Remington New Model Army revolver is a fine representative sidearm of the Civil War.
