    Robbins Lawrence Mod. Ring Trigger 28 Cal. - Inventory Number:  HAN 299 / SOLD

    An original, Robbins & Lawrence five-shot, percussion pepperbox pistol in very good condition that is referred to as a 'Ring Trigger Concealed Hammer' pistol. The firm of Samuel Robbins and Richard Lawrence of Windsor, Vermont produced approximately 7,000 of these specimens between 1851 and 1854. This example bears matching serial numbers on the barrel face and buttplate. Weapon is fitted with a 4½" long barrel mounted on an iron frame and uses a .28 caliber ball. The pistol employs a ring-cocking trigger with a small outer curved trigger for firing.

    The barrel is ribbed and hinges downward for capping. The pistol has decorative scroll engravings on the iron frame. Mechanics of the pistol are strong and crisp. Frame screws are fine, not buggered. The top flats of the ribbed barrel bear the maker's mark "ROBBINS & LAWRENCE / WINDSOR, VT. / PATENT 1849". Stampings are crisp and clear. The pistol features two-piece wood grips are of rosewood or walnut in excellent condition. A fine, original Robbins & Lawrence 'Ring Trigger Concealed Hammer pepperbox.
