South Carolina coat button of two-piece construction with a palmetto tree flanked by the initials “SC” on a lined field. A large amount of gilt remains on the face. The back is marked “H T & B/ MANCHESTER” with stand up shank. Manufactured by Hammond, Turner & Bates of Birmingham, England during the Civil War. The button is listed as SC260A1 in Uniform Buttons of the United States 1776-1865 by Warren K. Tice. A fine South Carolina Confederate button.
