Tortise Handled Fleam - Inventory Number: MED 042 / SOLD

This is a standard 19^th century thumb lancet in tortoise shell covers.  These items were standard equipment for physicians and surgeons.  As a medical therapy, bleeding or bloodletting endured for approximately 2,500 years.  It was only abandoned at the beginning of the 19th century.
