U.S.M.A low convex two-piece button with rare "H. V. ALLIEN & CO N.Y." backmark.  Shank is in excellent condition.

Congress established the U.S. Military Academy in 1802 at West point, New York, overlooking the Hudson River.  The school was organized to free the country from wartime reliance on mercenary foreign drillmasters, artillerymen and military engineers,  Corps of Engineers officers administered the Academy until 1866.
