Fired 3-inch Hotchkiss case-shot, one of the most common field artillery rounds used in the 3-inch Ordnance Rifle. This example was once part of a Gettysburg monument and has a thick layer of black paint with some of the original orange case-shot paint showing through. This example has the three flame grooves running up the sides. The fuse hole still retains deep and sharp threads and would likely still accommodate a fuse if desired. A nice Civil War shell from Gettysburg.
