A nice U.S. Common Rifle powder flask meant to be used with the 1817 Common Rifle and later the 1841 Mississippi Rifle. This one was made by Robert Dingee of New York and is dated 1833. These powder flasks would have been used during the American Seminole Indian Wars and possibly helped Texans, at the Alamo, gain their independence from Mexico. This eagle and bugle embossed flask is designated as a Riling #856. See page 362 of Ray Riling’s Powder Flask book.
