U.S. Schenkl Percussion Fuse

U.S. Schenkl Percussion Fuse – Inventory Number: ART 452

Brass fuse in very good condition. Patent information stamped on top of its rotator cap is present and visible with, “J. P. SCHENKL / PAT. OCT. 16, 1861”. Brass fuse has nice dark patina with underlying brass showing through in places.  Fuse anvil is set to be fired and there is no safety screw, but fuse and threads are in perfect condition.

According to Charles H. Jones' book "Artillery Fuses of the Civil War", on page 103, "On July 15, 1862, J. P. Schenkl patented his "[combination] Time and Concussion" fuse, Patent No.35,897.
