U.S. Civil War High Grade General Officer’s Sword Belt - Inventory Number: BEL 446 / SOLD
Regulation belt used by General’s and widely seen in period photographs, but seldom encountered. This red Moroccan leather belt is in excellent condition. The belt measures approx. 1.75 inches wide and is complete with both drops and all its hardware.
Both the body of the belt and the drops are decorated with three parallel lines of bright bullion thread with very little oxidation. The leather is supple and excellent. The sliding keeper is present and matches the belt. The pattern 1851 plate retains much of its original gilt and silver finish.
The drops have large gilt frame buckles and gilded sword hooks. Support hook is present on the left side. This is a very attractive example and the nicest we’ve had to offer.
