Vermont State Cuff or Hat Button - Inventory Number: BUT 178 / Sold

Vermont button, state seal stag head.  Button depicts Vermont seal, a stag, The button designer took the stag head motif from the Vermont crest, intended for Vermont units.  The shield present in most Vermont state seal buttons was eliminated in this small size version, presumably to better utilize the limited available space. Backmark: "SCOVILL MF'G CO." dm. Two part convex button, hat or sleeve size. Dug button, gilding, shank intact. Recovered: Virginia campaign.
