Large wooden tabletop stereoscope made for viewing the stereo photographs so popular in the mid to late 19th century. It consists of a wooden box that hinges open to reveal an interior compartment for storing stereographs. The lid can be lifted and locked in place for various viewing angles. One end of the lid has a hinged stereograph holder, and the other end has a hinged wooded frame holding both the stereo and large viewing lens. The base measures 12 ½” by 7”. A functional piece of Victorian photography memorabilia.
