Battle of Gettysburg
Excavated Virginia Militia low convex one-piece coat button, produced between 1820-1835. The face depicts the Virginia coat of arms with “Virtus” slaying the tyrant. “VIRGINIA” is printed along the top and “SIC SEMPER TYRANNIS” along the bottom. The button has a brown/green patina and has the shank on the back which is bent over. The back is marked “YOUNG. SMITH & Co / NEW. YORK.” A nice early Virginia button. From a collection of local Gettysburg Relics recovered in the 1950’s. Accompanied by certificate of authenticity.
