Top bar is made up of the letters "GAR" with a bar inscribed "WASHINGTON" superimposed over the center of the three letters. The G retains Red enamel while the A is white, and the R is blue. The pin on the back is present The main medal has a spread winged eagle on top with a relief of the US Capital building at center flanked by the figure of a soldier and a sailor. At the bottom is a GAR star with a bust of George Washington surrounded by a laurel wreath at center. A riband surrounds the relief of the Capital building. This had lettering which reads: "36th NAT'L ENCAMPMENT OCT. 6-19 1902." The back reads "OFFICIAL SOUVENIR / SCHWAAB S. & S. CO. / MILWAUKEE."
