Apothecary Bottle – Fluid Extract Hyssop (Hyssopus Officinalis) - Inventory Number: MED 294
This striking 19th-century apothecary bottle features its original paper label reading “FLUID EXT. HYSSOP – Hyssopus Officinalis.” Blown in aqua-green glass with classic paneled sides and a flared lip, the bottle once contained a medicinal herbal extract commonly used as a carminative and expectorant for respiratory ailments.
The lower label provides dosage instructions: “Dose, one half to one dram. Stimulant, carminative, and tonic. Recommended in coughs and other affections of the chest as an expectorant.”
A beautifully preserved piece of early American medical history—ideal for collectors of antique medicine bottles, Civil War-era medical displays, or historical pharmacy decor.
