Child’s Carpetbag - Inventory Number: MIS 174 / SOLD
Wonderful condition, colorful example measuring 9 ¼” wide and 8” tall. The flap is secured via a thread loop and glass button. The interior is lined in buff polished cotton and is in comparable condition. The carpetbaggers of the Reconstruction Era following the American Civil War—Northerners who moved to the South for economic or political opportunity—were given their name from often carrying only this type of luggage, implying they came with little while hoping to acquire lots.
