Civil War Infantry 2nd Lieutenant’s Frock Coat - Inventory Number: UNI 150 / SOLD
Wonderful Wartime Example!
Coat is made of dark blue broadcloth. The exterior condition is very good. Moth damage is minimal. There are some small moth nips and scattered tracking, but nothing concentrated. It is all very minor. Black velvet lined collar with some light conservation to a thin tear, aside from that, very nice. Each shoulder has a 2nd Lieutenant of Infantry shoulder strap. The straps are in matching condition and appear to be original to the coat. The dark royal blue rank field on each is in excellent condition while the single gold bullion thread boarders are good and still gleam a bit despite some surface patina. The outer and inner jaceron borders are of dead bullion and are very good on both straps. The nine buttons adorn the front are all Staff Officer’s buttons.
The interior of the coat is in very nice condition. The lining in the body and skirts is present and complete throughout and show only minor scattered moth nips. There are no visible rips or tears. The body lining is quilted in the chest and around the arms. There is a horizontal pocket in the left chest. Sleeves are lined with white muslin and the seams where the sleeve lining meets the coat lining are excellent. Each side is adorned with three staff buttons, some of which have been replaced.
Wonderful conditioned Civil War 2nd Lieutenant’s frock coat. Will make a wonderful display.
