Civil War Union Enlisted Man’s Forage Cap – Inventory Number: UNI 191 / ON-HOLD

This is a classic example of a Union Army enlisted man’s forage cap, often referred to as a “kepi,” dating from the American Civil War. The cap features dark blue wool body construction, original tarred leather visor, and a functional oilcloth sweatband. The chinstrap remains intact with brass side buttons and buckle.

These caps were standard issue for Union infantry and were worn both in camp and in combat. This example shows authentic field wear and retains strong form, with the interior lining and brim showing appropriate age and use. The sweatband portion has been added from a post war cap.

A highly collectible and iconic piece of Civil War uniform history.
