Civil War US ‘Bullseye” Canteen with Partial ID - Inventory Number: CAN 122 / SOLD

Civil War Union 5-ring canteen. This is the classic style known to collectors as the "Bullseye” pattern with the reinforcement rings stamped on each side. It still has all three of the original strap loops present, as well as the pewter spout and cork stopper. The leather sling and stopper chord are old replacements. “SEVERN 43” is scratched twice into the spout. The closest match in the database is John Severns of the 43rd Pennsylvania, which was recruited as a three-month emergency regiment during Lee’s invasion of Pennsylvania. A nice example of a classic Civil War canteen.

John Severns enlisted on 7/6/1863 as a Private on 7/6/1863 he mustered into "G" Co. PA 43rd Infantry.  He was Mustered Out on 8/13/1863
