Confederate Paymaster’s Valise - Inventory Number: CON 415 / SOLD
This pasteboard folio is covered in oilcloth and features a brass lock similar to those found on carpet bags of the period. The back exhibits the stenciled initials “E.E.” and contained a pair of good condition Confederate $5.00 notes from the 1864 Richmond printing. The notes bear remarkably close serial numbers of 22,555 and 22,560 and have undoubtedly stayed together since the war. Several years ago, our gallery offered an identified paymaster’s folio which also contained currency. A unique item of the Confederate paymaster’s system.
Comes housed in riker display case with velvet and descriptive card.
