Confederate Soldier’s Bible 3rd Alabama Infantry - Inventory Number: CON 427 / SOLD

The 3rd Alabama was the first to cross the Potomac into Maryland and to enter the streets of Gettysburg in 1863!

“This book was a token of friendship from Mifs. Marleen Lester to Henry M. Martin in the Year 1861 and was carried through the late war of the States by him, and now we wish it to represent our affection to our children.”

The English Version of the Polyglot Bible - Printed by Lippencot of Philadelphia. The bible contains a section with handwritten entries of family births and death and an additional inscription in the back presenting the Bible to their children.

Private Henry Martin served with the 3rd Alabama Infantry C.S.A. and Served from 1861 to 1865.  He is listed as Wounded at Charleston, Virginia August 22, 1864 and as a Prisoner of War – Captured at Harper’s Farm April 6th 1865, soon to be released on an Oath of Allegiance at Point Lookout Maryland.
