Confederate “Wishbone” Belt Plate - Inventory Number: CON 536
Wonderful condition example of the large frame. This distinctive Confederate waistbelt buckle was widely produced during the war. It is frequently seen in images of Confederate soldiers and, along with fixed tongue buckles, is a basic piece in a CS collection. The tongue broke during service and the soldier formed a new one out of necessity. The brass has a nice mellow even color. There are no breaks or repairs. There is a slight wave to the border which is a nice sign of field use and the pull of the belt as worn. As is typical, the surface of the plate was finished to a degree, but there was no intention of removing every sign of the casting. From the Dick Hammond collection
Comes housed in 6 x 8 riker display case with red velvet and descriptive card.
